Hormone Therapy for Energy, Stamina, and Longevity

Hormone therapy (HT) is an evidence-based treatment that supports hormone optimization, energy, stamina, and overall well-being in both women and men, and helps relieve symptoms associated with menopause and natural hormonal changes.

At Shine Direct Primary Care, hormone therapy is never one-size-fits-all. Every plan is built around your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and long-term health goals.

Led by Dr. Frances I. Romero, our programs emphasize thoughtful evaluation, education, and shared decision-making — so you feel informed and supported every step of the way.

What Is Hormone Therapy?

Hormone therapy uses FDA-approved medications to support the body as hormone levels naturally change with age. When appropriate, hormone therapy can help improve daily function, energy consistency, mental clarity, sleep quality, mood, and overall quality of life.

Deciding whether hormone therapy is right for you depends on several factors, including:

  • Age and life stage

  • Severity and pattern of symptoms

  • Personal and family medical history

  • Current health status and risk profile

  • Individual goals for wellness and longevity

A careful, individualized approach is essential.

Hormone Therapy for Women

Hormone therapy for women is most commonly used during perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause, when hormonal shifts can begin to affect daily life in noticeable ways.

Hormone therapy for women may help with:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats

  • Fatigue and low energy

  • The familiar “3:00 PM slump”  makes naps feel unavoidable

  • Brain fog or difficulty concentrating

  • Mood changes, anxiety, or irritability

  • Sleep disturbances or frequent nighttime awakenings

  • Low libido and vaginal discomfort

  • Changes in body composition and bone health

When appropriate, treatment may include estrogen, progesterone, and/or testosterone, based on symptoms, medical history, and personal goals.

Hormone Therapy for Men

Hormone therapy for men focuses on optimizing testosterone levels to support strength, stamina, mental clarity, and sustained energy as levels naturally decline with age.

Men may consider hormone therapy when experiencing:

  • Persistent fatigue or reduced stamina

  • Mid-afternoon energy crashes or reliance on naps

  • Decreased muscle mass or strength

  • Increased body fat despite healthy habits

  • Low libido or sexual performance concerns

  • Brain fog, reduced motivation, or mental fatigue

  • Mood changes or irritability

Testosterone therapy is carefully evaluated and prescribed based on symptoms, laboratory findings, and overall health considerations.

The “3:00 PM Slump”: When Fatigue Becomes a Pattern

Many women and men report a predictable mid-afternoon energy crash, often around 3:00 PM, that feels disproportionate to their day.

Patients often tell us:

  • “I feel like I have to nap to function.”

  • “Coffee doesn’t work anymore — or it makes me jittery.”

  • “My brain shuts down mid-afternoon.”

  • “I’m productive in the morning, then completely drained.”

  • “By 3 PM, I’m counting the hours until bedtime.”

This pattern may be influenced by hormonal changes, sleep disruption, or shifts in cortisol and sex hormones. When appropriate, hormone therapy can help maintain consistent energy throughout the day, not just in the morning.

Could Hormone Therapy Help You?

You may benefit from a hormone evaluation if you check several of the following:

☐ Persistent fatigue despite adequate sleep
☐ Regular 3:00 PM energy crashes or need for naps
☐ Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
☐ Non-restorative sleep or frequent nighttime awakenings
☐ Mood changes, irritability, or anxiety
☐ Low libido or sexual health concerns
☐ Weight changes despite healthy habits
☐ Decreased stamina, strength, or motivation
☐ Hot flashes or night sweats
☐ Reduced muscle mass or endurance

Checking these boxes doesn’t automatically mean hormone therapy is right for you, but it does mean a thoughtful evaluation is worth having.
